The Best Annual Events in Byron Bay
Share
Byron Bay has a country-wide reputation as being one of the great coastal holiday destinations. With some of the country’s most stunning beaches, a remarkable hinterland and an agreeable climate, little wonder it sits as a premier destination for nature lovers. But there is much more to the area than just its natural beauty. Every year, thousands of people flock to the region to enjoy the dozens of annual events in Byron Bay.
Music festivals are some of the most popular of these Byron Bay annual events.
The East Coast Blues and Roots Festival (or Bluesfest), held each April, is of international renown. Splendour in the Grass (held during the month of July) is another very popular annual music festival – especially among the younger music lovers. The Falls Music and Art Festival visits Byron Bay annually during December and January.
Some lesser-known music festivals that are always popular among the local residents are the Mullum Music Festival (held in the township of Mullumbimby during the month of November), the Nimbin Roots Festival (September) and the Bangalow BBQ and Bluegrass Festival in August.
So if music is your thing, then there is a plethora of music events held annually around Byron Bay.
But there are other annual events held in and around Byron Bay as well. The Byron Bay Writers Festival is always well attended during the month of August by many hundreds of established as well as aspiring writers. The Sample Food Festival in September comes to the Bangalow Showgrounds every September is a wonderful event that showcases some of the best local cuisines. And on a similar theme, the Byron Bay Fine Food and Beverage Festival in June brings an eclectic gathering of locals and visitors alike to sample some of the area’s best and most distinct food and drink.
For those of a more energetic nature, the Byron area has plenty of annual events to whet the appetite. September brings the annual Byron Lighthouse Run – a community event supported by the local businesses that sees competitors choosing between a 6.7 km walk or a 10 km run to raise much needed funding for a different cause each year. For yoga practitioners and those interested in finding out more about this discipline, the Byron Yoga Day Festival in June may be for you.
The Byron Bay Triathlon is held every May and attracts athletes from all areas of the Northern Rivers and beyond.
The Byron Bay area also enjoys its own Film Festival in October, the Spirit Festival in March as well as a couple of more obscure annual events such as the Bangalow Billy Cart Derby, the Brunswick Old and Gold Festival and the Byron Latin Festival.
So throughout the year, there is an absolute feast of annual festivals to be enjoyed in the Byron Bay area.
